May, 2003 (Month 24)(images from August 7 to September 5)



Well, here comes birthday number two...and I don't think we've hit the "terrible twos" yet.  In fact, her tantrums have probably lessened as she's gotten older -- she uses her words much better when she's upset or frustrated.  This past month has seen her develop much longer phrases and confidence in her vocabulary...sometimes she'll rattle off a 10 or 12 word sentence with ease. ("Alex is wearing a pink shirt and yellow pants, and Teletubbie shoes."  Or "Daddy and Alex are going for a walk with Peanut.  Ooh, let's run up the hill!")  Alex is begging for animals at her birthday party, and she knows she's getting a "big girl" bed soon as well.  She actually prefers to sleep in "Mommy's bed" (not Daddy's), even when she's just taking a nap and we're not there.  Her attention span has increased to the point where she can watch the majority of an interesting movie (like Monsters Inc.), and she can sit at the dinner table by herself for 45 minutes without trouble.  All good stuff!

Week 1: I started the week by playing with my animals! Here, Daddy...you have one!

  Hi, Daddy! Look, ma -- no animals!
 
  Now I'm playing with my doll...in the stroller! (Watch!) Ooh, the sun is bright.
 
  I'll use the shovel to block the sun. Hi, Daddy!  We love you!
 
  OK, here's a big smile for the camera! Jen and Jay came to play in my new house!
 
  Jay was in the house with me... ...and so was the doll!
 
  We're looking out the window. (Watch!) Hey, everyone's in the house!
 
  After they left, I played in my sandbox. (Watch!) I'm so glad Papa moved it over here!
  There are a lot of movies (10) for the week:

Week 2:
  The Playgroup came over on Wednesday! There were 18 2-year olds...but I like babies!
 
  Look -- there's a baby up there! And here's a baby too!
 
  Hey, don't touch...I'm watching this baby. Yay!  Another baby!
 
  Doesn't matter what else is happening.  Babies. Ooh, gotta protect my new house!
 
  Party's over...time to sit with Peanut! I love him!
 
  See!  A big kiss (even if she smells like skunk). Watch me play with Peanut!
 
  Mommy and I played with chalk. Here, Daddy...want some?
 
  OK, I'll do it myself. Sigh...yes, Daddy...one more smile for the camera.
 
  It's Mommy's Day!  First, we'll comb her hair. Then I'll play with the cups...
 
  (I can sort them all by myself!) Then it's off to Dog Beach...holes are fun!
 
  All right, out of the hole. This is just before I threw sand in my hair.
 
  Now for a bunch of pictures with Mommy! I love her so much!
 
  Hi, Daddy! This is Daddy's favorite.
 
  But this one was pretty good, too... ...and so was this one!
 
  We'll stop now. (But this was good too!) Then we went to a playground.
 
  I went down the slide... ...and got Mommy to come with me!
 
  Whee! Then Mommy pretended to get me on the swing.
 
  And Daddy actually got me! A little playtime (I can do this by myself too).
 
  And a little lounging in the sun. And finally, we went and fed the ducks!

Week 3:
  Baby Orion (and Eddie/Denise/Savannah) visited!  I just couldn't get enough of Orion.  (Watch!)
 
  Umm...I don't know about this guy at Sea World. At least Savannah and I got hats at the zoo!
 
  Ooh...what are you doing with Orion, Aunt Denise? I'll just give Savannah a pat on the back.
 
  Look, Mommy...a koala bear! (Watch!) Savannah...see the koala over there?
 
  Now we're on the tour bus at the zoo. Mommy took this close-up of me.
 
  Hey, now we're at the beach with the seals! Look, Daddy...lots of seals!
 
  First I stood on this rock while Daddy took pictures. Yay, I'm on a rock! (Watch!)
 
  Ha!  Look at those seals over there! Savannah, come on the rock with me!
 
  Look, Daddy...it's me and Savannah! We're on the rock together! (Watch!)
 
  Aw, Savannah gave me a hug! I'll just have to hug her right back.
 
  Where are you going, Savannah? Ah, to another rock.  Great!
 
  OK...bye, Daddy!  Let's go to the cave beach! Here we are at the cave beach.
 
  Now it's time for the whole family to eat dinner. This is a preview of my party next week!
 
  After dinner, it was more Baby Orion. Look< Daddy...I'm holding him by myself!
 
  Sunday, we went to the park. I filled this bucket with sand...
 
  ...and gave it to Savannah! Here's me, Daddy, Orion and Uncle Eddie!
 
  After I rode the dolphin... ...I had to ride the frog!
 
  Savannah and I went down to the water... ...and we threw some shells!

Week 4:
  Friday, I went to the beach with Georgio and Grace. I wonder what I'll get for my birthday?
 
  I got a bike from Eddie and Denise! (Watch me ride!) Daddy put it together...OK, time to get off.
 
  We're going to Jim's house for a party! (Watch me count!) Now we're at the party...other kids!  Yay!
 
  OK, time to go.  (Heading back to Mommy now.) Sunday, the whole family came over!
 
  I got this great dog...it wags its tail! What did long-lost cousin Roberta get me?
 
  Oooh, a box! Let me open it up...
 
  Wait, it's not a box...it's a nice dress!  Thanks! Aunt Kathy did Barbie's hair for me.
 
  And we played catch with this dog! (Watch!) Look, here's everyone hanging out!
 
  After dinner, I sat in Roberta's lap (with Brandon). GG (Great Grandma) watched it all!
 
  Brandon held me after dinner! (He's 10.) Then i sat with Grandpa on the couch.
 
  I like Grandpa! OK, the party's almost over!
 
  Here, Uncle Jordan...put this on before you go! Goodbye, Uncle Jordan!
 
  Goodbye, Aunt Kathy! I'll pose for one quick picture...

  On the day of my birthday, we went to Sea World! Is that a beluga whale behind me?
 
  I waited in line with Daddy... ...and we finally got a good family picture!
 
  When Mommy makes pizza, I like to steal some. (Watch!) Paymon and the boys came over for Poker!
 
  And then it was time for my party on Saturday! Look at this great cake that Jen made!
 
  It was huge!  (Bigger than me!) And it had a blue eye, too.
 
  Jen and Mommy...what should we do? OK, Jen will cut the cake.
 
  Here you go, Alex!  (Great gift, Jen!) Here, Daddy...you try some. (Yum!)
 
  And now some for Nonna and Papa! Time to open my presents...hey, some shoes!
 
  And I got this neat little bike. My feet actually reach the pedals!
 
  Wow, the bike makes noise?  I'll ride it later. I kept bringing presents over to open. (Watch!)
 
  Part of the fun is opening the gifts! (Watch!) After presents we took a little rest on the couch.
 
  But then it was time for more jumping! (Hey, if we went it all day, I'll use it all day.)
 
  Then we all went out to try my bike. I'm kind of getting the hang of this...
 
  Daddy, push me! This is just after I fell off.
 
  Mommy helped me get back on. OK, all done...time to go inside!
 
  After dinner, I counted to 10... (Watch!) ...and said my ABC's! (Watch!)
