March, 2003 (Month 22)(images from August 7 to September 5)



As Alex enters the final quarter of her second year, lots of interesting things are happening.  Not only are her conversational skills advancing, but her personality is continuing to develop.  She's a very independent sort -- she likes to do things on her own (like climb the stairs, which she's very good at, or walk in the store).  She's not all that moody...generally, she's pretty happy most of the time...but she's prone to having "fits" every once in awhile -- when she's having them, you have to let them run their course.  After a few minutes, you can usually distract her with a stuffed animal or something (in the first few minutes, nothing works), and then she goes about like nothing has happened, back to her normal self.  She's not that good at sharing with other children (sometimes a forced attempt at sharing can set off one of these fits), but she's learning and getting better at it.  She loves to point out things as she sees them ("white shirt", "Alex standing" (on Daddy), "Peanut running"), and she'll say something over and over until you acknowledge what she's said ("brown table, brown table, brown table" "Brown table, Alex?" "yeah!").  She loves going up and down the new stairs by herself, and she likes to hide in the closets.  She loves to be thrown up in the air, and she likes to climb on Daddy.  She's a particular eater -- there's not much she won't eat at one time or another, but on any given night, there's only a few things she's happy with.  Hot dogs are probably her favorite food, but she also likes peaches (and any watery fruit).  Ask her what she wants for dinner, and the answer is often the same:  "Soup, rice, meat!" (or chicken).

  Mommy let me have a few pieces...yum! Everything's still a mess...

  Now we're outside...and I'm happy! I'm hiding from you, Mommy!
 
  Ah!  You found me!  (Watch!) I've got lots of room to play with my wagon!
 
  And I even have this neat table outside... ...perfect for "cooking" dinner!
  There's just one movie this week: Where's Alex?  Right here!  Jump, jump!
     
Week 2:
  Watch...here's a favorite game of mine... I play "peek-a-boo" through a comb!
 
  Here, Daddy...you try! I had more fun with the trains than it looks.
 
  First, I tried to build a bridge... Then I made the trains go on the track!
 
  And finally, I ate the trains. (Just kidding!) Peanut and I went outside!
 
  I can walk down the stairs without holding on. C'mon, Daddy...come hide over here! (Watch!)
 
  OK, we're hiding... Daddy, c'mon...down here!
 
  Can you see me? I'm hiding! (Watch!) We'll make some faces while we're hiding...
 
  This is what I look like when I'm singing... This is me when I'm happy...
 
  And here's me when I'm hiding! I can even hide behind this plant!
 
  Peanut and I played in the backyard. (Watch!) I also pulled a wagon...

Week 3:
  Daddy took me to Sea World on Wednesday! We saw a polar bear!
 
  Wow, look how big he is! Jim came too...it was fun!
 
  Check out the bear in the background... Now he's standing on the rock!
 
  Sometimes, people are more interesting. OK, time to head to the petting zoo!
 
  I pet this goat... ...and this goat...
 
  ...and I hid from this goat... ...but I pet this goat too.
 
  Thursday, Mommy took me to Sea World! We played in the flowers...
 
  ...and I smiled for Mommy...not once... ...but twice!
 
  I got to eat cotton candy while watching the show! Yum!
 
  Then I sit on the steps and watched some more. We also played in the soft jumping area.
 
  I sat on this soft thing... ...and pushed a big ball around! (Watch!)
 
  I like to stand on Daddy! And I REALLY like to sit in this bucket of balls.
 
  Time to put the balls away! Hello, baby! (Watch me rock the baby!)
 
  And I can wear the baby as a hat! Running and jumping with the baby! (Watch!)
 
Lots of movies this week...here they are!

  Another day, more sitting in the balls. (Watch!)  
     
 
Week 4: Look, I'm feeding the ducks! Come here, duck!
 
  Duck, where are you? Hmmm...you're not going to bite me, are you?
 
  OK, here...just take the bread! Mommy, more bread please!
 
  I love my little sister! (If you didn't hear, 80% chance it's a girl!)
 
  Alex, where are you? Here I am! (Watch!)
 
  Yay!  I'm in the pool! Check out my strategically-placed toy!
 
  Mommy, are you coming in too? Thanks for putting up the swing, Daddy!
 
  It's really fun! Mommy bought me a new kitchen set.
 
  This one has a microwave! OK, all done!  Here's your dinner, Daddy.
 
  We'll finish the week off by going for a walk. Up the hill we go (in my cute dress).
 
  I'm climbing on the neighbor's steps... ...and Peanut and I are going under the fence!
 
  Mommy took this of me in the wildflowers... ...I just love it out here in the wilderness!
