February, 2003 (Month 21)(images from August 7 to September 5)



Alex's cognitive level continues to takes leaps and bounds;  it's fun to have a conversation with her these days. (Where's the doll, Alex?  I don't know!  Is it in the bathroom?  No...  Is it in the bedroom?  Yes!  What do you want for dinner?  Meat, rice, cheese...  Do you want water or juice?  Juice!  And so on...)  She generally eats pretty well (definitely goes in phases), and her moods are pretty constant and predictable.  We've probably hit the "terrible twos"...but they're not that bad.  95% of the time she's a very happy, inquisitive child;  5% of the time, she can get very needy, clingy, emotional.  Her sleep habits are pretty constant, unless she's not feeling well (in which case, Mommy and Daddy don't get much sleep).  She still likes to draw, dance, sing (she hums a few specific tunes a lot), play with play-doh, play the harmonica, play with dolls, play in her kitchen, make tea, and take walks.

Week 1: If I have a rough night, I sleep with Mommy and Daddy. Mommy caught us asleep Saturday morning.

  Off to music class!  Oh, woe is me! Just kidding!
 
  I brought my doll to music class the other day. We both learned a lot.
 
  Playing with maracas is fun! Now, watch me hide from Mommy...
 
  Peek-a-boo! (Watch this on video!) Sometimes, I watch TV in the morning.
 
  I usually have a doll with me. Oobi is one of our favorites!
 
  Daddy took me to the Wild Animal Park! We saw rhinos...
 
  ...and mountain goats... ...it was really interesting!
 
  I had a good time (and I was so well-behaved)! Then we went to Connor's birthday party!
 
  Connor and I ate cheetos. I ate lots of them...
 
  Still eating! Inside the house, I saw a teddy bear.
 
  Connor's dog Duke gave me a lick! I sat on the stairs...
 
  ...and played in Connor's play room! Whew!  Time for a rest. See you next week!

Week 2:
  I started off the week very sick. Sometimes, it makes me throw tantrums!
 
  But I was feeling much better by mid-week. We went to Benihana's for Valentine's Day!
 
  Where else would you expect us to go? The doll and I waited in a big girl's chair.
 
  It was lots of fun! (I hammed it up for the camera.) This was just one of our many Home Depot trips.
 
  I helped pick out fixtures! Mommy, do you like this one?
 
  Hmmm...I think we need this. I was looking at my funny reflection!
  Here's the lone movie for the week: Watch me push a cart in Home Depot!
     
Week 3:
  Mommy and I can build the blocks real high! Whoa...there they go!  Boom!
 
  Jen and Jim are back from their travels... ...and they got me this neat hat from Bali!
 
  OK, Mommy and I took the monkey for a walk. C'mon, Mommy...let's go!
 
  But don't forget the monkey! We're hiding from you!
 
  Can you see us? Maybe if I crouch down a little lower...
 
  Ah, there we are! Now we're going on the tire swing.
 
  We're having so much fun! (Watch!) Grandma is helping the doll kiss the rabbit.
 
  And Grandpa is pushing me on the swing. (Watch!) Now push from the front, Grandpa!
 
  Grandma, Grandpa, Daddy and I went on a walk. I love my shadow!  Hi, shadow!
 
  Grandpa pushed me on the tire swing, too... (Watch!) ...and here's me, Daddy and Grandma!

I can jump, and run (even with the monkey)!
Uh oh...I fell and hurt my knee! (But I'm OK.)

Week 4:
  Mommy and I went to paint and dance... (Watch!) ...and we wore this neat scarf! (Watch!)
 
  I really like to paint... ...it's fun to get more on the brush...
 
  ...and then I create a masterpiece! (Watch!) Mid-week, I fell and scratched up my nose!
 
  Sometimes I like to watch TV while sitting on the dog. I'm Alex-in-the-box!
