Updates

This is a collection of all of the weekly updates that appear on the main page of Charlotte's page on FisherKids.com.

October 22, 2006:
We're back!  This update encompasses three months (July, August and September) -- the arrival of baby Chase has pushed things back a bit (and Chase's area of FisherKids.com will be coming shortly).

This month's author of FisherKids is our very own Mommy -- she wrote a lot for each month, and it's posted at the top of each Pictures page.  An abbreviated version of each month's post follows:

July Charlie is three years old!  She has been talking about her birthday ever since we had Alex's birthday party.   She is so excited.  She practices singing Happy Birthday to herself everyday.  She's been having a pretend birthday for weeks now. She couldn't decide what kind of theme to have for her birthday this year.  She wanted a Disney Cars, Thomas the Train,  PrincessUnicorn Party.  We finally decided on a Chuck E. Cheese party because she loves Chuck E Cheese and it was easy for mommy and daddy.

Lots of fun stuff to report about Charlie this month; Her vocabulary has increased tremendously and includes colorful words such as disgusting and unbelievable. Her speech is not very clear yet since she has difficulty with some of her sounds but it doesn't stop her from having a lot to say. Charlie knows her numbers and sounds pretty well now and enjoys playing with them.  She still loves books and movies.  She is easily engaged in any story. See Pictures and read more updates!

August

  • Charlie is enjoying her summer (and her time at home with Mommy and Alex) -- she's spending lots of time at home with occasional visits to  Sea World, the Zoo, the park, the beach, birthday parties, etc. However, she's very excited about starting school.

  • She's really focusing on doing puzzles.  Her favorite puzzle is a mermaid puzzles with about 50 pieces.  .

  • She's very hungry for attention from Mommy (mostly) and Daddy – but she's still able to play independently for long periods of time.

  • She's very sweet and cuddly.  She loves to climb into your arms or lap to see what you are doing and wants to be involved too.

  • She still enjoys role playing.  Especially being the kitten and mommy, playing doctor and being a princess.

  • She loves swimming!  She wants to swim every day. In fact, we use swimming as a reward for taking her nap without a fuss.

  • See Pictures and read more updates!

September: Charlie loves being in and around the water or beach.  Although she only likes warm water.  Charlie started preschool for the first time.  She loves it. She loves "working" at school.  She practices cutting with scissors, making necklaces, sorting, doing her numbers and sounds.  She loves to play on the swings and play structure outside and  tries to ride the tricycles.  But all that work and a short nap makes Charlie tired after school.  She has warm milk and a small snack on her way home from school.  Then she takes off her shoes and plays make believe with her toys.  By 5:30 she is ready for dinner.

Charlie's latest shoot was for a butterfly costume.  It was on location at a local park.  She did a great job and had fun with her ladybug friend.  When they were all done she got to keep her costume too! See Pictures and read more updates!

So there's your July-August-September update for Charlie.  Alex's site just got a three-month update as well, so go check it out, and we'll see you when Winter rolls around (or maybe sooner)!

(9.30.06) It's my first day of school! (Watch me work at school!)

(8.31.06) I love to go swimming! (Watch me jump in the pool!)

(7.31.06) It's my birthday! (Watch me open a birthday present!)

July 10, 2006:
OK, then...time for Charlie's every-three-month update!  For starters, her birthday is coming up, and she's quite excited (it's in two weeks).  She keeps wavering on the type of birthday we're going to have (it's gone from Chuck E. Cheese to Elmo to dinosaurs), but she can't wait.

(One note, just to look back on:  Charlie doesn't really have many friends...really, just Jaisel down the street.  But she THINKS she has lots of friends -- our neighbors, Alex's friends, etc. -- and she's thrilled they're ALL coming to her party.  The bottom line: it's time to get her to school and get her mingling with other kids her age!)

Here are some bullet-point updates from the last three months:

  • April: loved the Easter Egg hunt, but not that interested in the contents -- she's just not into sweets (other than ice cream and popcorn, there isn't any candy she likes, or is willing to try).

  • May: Loves to wear her princess dresses, and changes clothes/underwear as often as possible. Likes to look special/beautiful -- special dresses, hair ribbons, nail polish.

  • June: Loves swimming -- tries to convince her parents to go to the pool once a day. Tries to get her bathing suit on at any opportunity.

  • June: Went to the fair, and LOVED the rides -- especially all of the roller coasters.  She's got very little fear of rides like that (unlike her sister, who is just coming around to them now).

  • June: She's VERY ready for school, and she'll be going in just a few weeks with her sister for the summer.

  • Loves her puzzles and games, but still having trouble with the rules (for games like Twister or War (with cards)).

  • Still doesn't like ANY fresh fruit, and will only eat pureed fruit (although she loves jars of bananas and peas).  She's still never tried any other liquid besides milk and water. (Not ONE.)

  • She's very, very social. Not shy around new people at all, and loves to say hi to strangers.

  • She's becoming interested in the baby (although nowhere near how Alex was at a much younger age). When she goes to the OB/GYN, she likes to have him deliver her baby puppy.

  • Vocabulary is quite extensive, if still not always that clear.  She's got some big words in there (like "celebration" and "disgusting"), and uses her words quite well...but sometimes her enunciation makes it tricky to understand what she's saying.  Sometimes uses funny phrases like "I'm happy now, not sad anymore" when she turns the "happy/sad" faucet on and off, as she's able to do.

  • Favorite lunch food: "Peanut Butter Swamwich".

  • Still loves her Elmo toys (although no more golf ball-toting).  Loves her unicorn and shark figurines, and can't get enough of her new Lightning McQueen car.

  • Easy to put down for afternoon nap (actually asks for it, usually). Nighttime can still be a challenge -- she goes down easy enough, but can sometimes keep Alex awake as she reads late.

  • Much more into Daddy than Alex...loves to go places with Daddy in the car, and never complains about Daddy giving baths, etc.

  • Constantly falling/bumping into things, but she's a very tough girl. No matter how much she hurts herself, when you ask her if she's OK, she'll always say "Yes".

  • Still doesn't like to dress herself (even though she can).  Never has a bathroom accident. Almost always wears dresses (matching socks/shoes are not important.)

  • Loves to sing songs, loudly. Her favorites include Twinkle Twinkle and Oh, Canada. Also knows a number of books by heart (it's fun to hear her "read"), and can actually identify most of the alphabet and can group things by starting letter quite easily.

  • Is absolutely fantastic at soccer -- she can kick the ball extremely well, and has a good aptitude for it. Possibly even better than her sister at this point.

April Pictures from the farm, at the pool, at ballet, hunting for Easter eggs, and at the beach with Nina and Papa.  There's just one movie this month: Watch me babble with my sister at the pool. (15 sec.)

May Pictures of Charlie on the swing, eating ice cream, on Mother's Day, with the new puppy, at Alex's school, at poker night, at Alex's birthday party, and with her best (and only) friend Jaisel. Plus, there are 6 movies this month:

Alex and Charlie ride the teeter-totter. (11 sec.) | Charlie loves it, as she declares. (10 sec.) | The puppy goes after Alex, and Charlie dives in. (20 sec.) | Everyone -- puppy, girls, cats -- frolics on the lawn. (11 sec.) | Charlie and Jaisel are best friends!  It's true! (12 sec.) | They sing a rousing rendition of Twinkle Twinkle... (23 sec.)

June: Pictures from the driveway pool, in her Minnie Mouse dress, from the Del Mar fair (a ton of them, mostly of Charlie riding things like the roller coaster), and Father's Day.  There's just one movie this month: The girls ride the carousel at the fair! (5 sec.)

So there's your April-May-June update for Charlie.  Alex's site just got a three-month update as well, so go check it out, and we'll see you in the Fall!

(6.30.06) Rollercoaster -- yay! (Watch me ride the merry-go-round!)

(5.30.06) Ice cream is my favorite! (Watch me and my best friend Jaisel!)

(4.30.06) Talk about cool hair... (Watch me babble with my sister at the pool.)

April 23, 2006:
Wow, where to start:  it's been over 3 months since the last update, and Charlie -- of course -- has grown by leaps and bounds since the last time you heard about her. (Why so long in between updates?  Well, Daddy got VERY busy with work, and Mommy -- YES -- is pregnant again!  Due date: late September/early October.)

For starters, Charlie is fully potty-trained, although this is old news by now;  she picked it up in January and never looked back (it took a long time to get there -- she was over 2 1/2 -- and then about 48 hours for her to completely get rid of the diaper, even at night).

She's still a very specific child -- there are lots of things that she does that are very, very different from anything we've seen (and certainly from her sister).  For example:

  • She loves to be naked.  Or in her underwear, without other clothes on.  She usually sleeps in the nude.

  • While she loves to wear underwear, she won't put it on by herself.

  • She doesn't eat a ton of different foods: mostly pasta, cheese, breads, pizza and yogurt.  Although she loves pureed veggies (like out of a little bottle), but she doesn't usually eat them on a plate (broccoli occasionally, but that's about it).  Not the greatest "tryer" in the world, but she can almost always be bribed to try a new food.

  • She loves to take naps during the day, but she doesn't like to go to bed during the night.  It rarely happens without a fuss.

  • And then, when in bed, she'll stay up for at least an hour every night, reading books (and taking every single book out of the bookshelves and putting them on the floor).  Poor Alex, she loses some sleep (although she's adamant that they stay together).

  • If you wake her up early from a nap, she can be grumpy (but she usually wakes up happy, and says "I woke up by myself!").

  • She absolutely loves baths;  she'll take 3 or 4 a day if you let her.

  • Golf balls are generally out of style;  the little Elmo figurines are still "in" (they go many places with her), as is Baby Puppy (a stuffed dog).

In other news...Charlie pulls Alex's hair a lot, and gets sent to time out a lot for it (which she usually takes happily). She's speaking in great sentences these days (nearly all of them coherent, although she'll babble from time-to-time), and clearly understands the entire English language. She knows the sounds of about 15 letters, and can count up to 20 or so.  She loves to say "shu-ah" ("sure") when you ask her a question (instead of "yes").  She'll watch TV all day if you let her, particularly movies (her favorites, without question, are Polar Express, Monsters, Inc., and Finding Nemo...and her favorite TV show is Little Einsteins -- not much in the way of the Wiggles or Elmo these days).

She's nearly ready for school;  she loves to go with Alex every day, and she'll be starting at the same school after the summer.  She really likes to learn new things, and copies Alex's reading/writing as best she can. Her fine motor skills are excellent (she practices with small items a lot).  She loves to draw (not great yet) and play with Play-Do. She dances all the time, and can't get enough classical music.

On to the pictures from the last three months!

January Pictures from Alex's school, reading books, Chuck E. Cheese's, ballet, the park, the dentist, and out in the yard.  Sadly, there are NO movies for January.

February Pictures of Charlie playing outside, at ballet class, in her new dress, out in the backyard, playing with bubbles, taking a bath, at Disneyland, swimming in the pool, and waking up from a nap! Plus, there are 5 movies this month:

Charlie does some counting (with Baby Puppy). (46 sec.) | Charlie introduces us to Baby Puppy. (36 sec.) | Charlie shows us her underwear. (24 sec.) | Now she sings Rock-a-bye-baby to Baby Puppy. (27 sec.) | And finally, she gives a kiss to Alex at Costco. (4 sec.)

March: Pictures from home, with her Baby Puppy, at Alex's Princess and Pirates class, at the beach, and at a birthday party. (Once again, there are no movies for the month.)

That's it for now...we'll try to do April's update in April -- but no guarantees.  Alex's site just got a triple update, too...go check it out!

(4.23.06) Check out my cool hair!

(3.1.06) February was a tiring month! (Watch me show off my underwear!)

(2.1.06) Check me out at ballet!

January 14, 2006:
2006 means a special double-update!  That's right, two months of updates for the price of one...satisfaction guaranteed, or your money back. (That's right...FisherKids.com guarantees your satisfaction, but we don't guarantee on-time updates.)

Here's the world of Charlie Mac over the past 60 days:

In November, Charlie actually went pee-pee in the potty twice (although she hasn't really repeated it since then...not much interest).  She still loves role-playing with little figurines, and she absolutely adores her ballet classes, often practicing at home.  And she's not shy -- she'll dance if you ask her (and sing, too).  She loves to go "out" -- especially with Nina and Papa (unlike Alex at this age).

In December, she started wearing underwear (sometimes), but she still doesn't quite get the potty concept.  She's beginning to sit without her booster seat at the table, and she loves to play doctor.  She found out the wonderment of Christmas songs and Santa Claus, and she picked up "cooking" in her new play kitchen.  She still loves her TV (Baby Einstein's is a new favorite, although her TV time has been cut way down), and she likes to take all of the DVDs out and pick the one she wants to watch (Polar Express is a big favorite at the moment).

Charlie is a big "over-emoter" -- she shakes when she's scared, and screams when she's unhappy (and laughs hard when she's happy).  She loves Chuck E. Cheese's, pasta and pizza, and books (she reads on her own 45 minutes a day, at least).

There's a lot more here...including the fact that she now shares a room (and sometimes a bed) with her sister, the fact that she's drawing faces (almost), and more...but we'll do a more comprehensive update next month.  On to the pictures and videos!

November Pictures from ballet, the park, the beach, a birthday party, Disneyland with Grandma and Grandpa, playing with the cats, painting, and more. Plus, 6 movies:

Charlie eats some cake at a birthday party. (15 sec.) | How about the ABC's at the park? (43 sec.) | She's starting to get the hang of ballet. (11 sec.) | On the carousel at Disneyland! (7 sec.) | Walking at Disneyland with Grandma and Grandpa! (8 sec.) | Daddy, "again again"! (18 sec.) | Charlie loves to listen to music. (11 sec.) | She's definitely getting ready for school! (27 sec.) | Our future painter at work! (28 sec.)

December Pictures from a pre-Xmas celebration, ballet class, the park (in a tutu), shopping, a Fisher family holidays with Cadence and Zayne and the rest of the Fishers, sleeping in her new big-girl bed, getting a picture with Santa, at Alex's school holiday performance, getting her toes painted, at Mommy's birthday, at the Nutcracker, with cousins Orion and Savannah, at Sea World, at the park, sunset at the beach, in the bath, on New Year's, and more! Plus, 10 movies:

Charlie does some performance ballet. (28 sec.) | How about some singing/ballet/riding? (9 sec.) | Now the ballerina tries to climb a turtle. (13 sec.) | Alex and Charlie play on the treadmill at the Fisher Xmas. (22 sec.) | Time for Charlie to get a pedicure! (21 sec.) | When is Santa going to get here? (29 sec.) | Charlie plays with her toys at the park.  (Funny!) (28 sec.) | Alex tackles Charlie at the park. (Silent) (7 sec.) | The girls do some serious swinging.  (Silent) (9 sec.) | On the carousel at the Wild Animal Park.  (Silent) (18 sec.)

We'll try to get back on the regular schedule at the end of January...can you tell we feel guilty?  Now go look at Alex's site, since it  just got a late update too.

(1.14.06) Getting ready for Christmas! (Watch me play with my toys!)

(12.01.05) I get naked to paint! (Watch me get ready for school!)

November 26, 2005:
Yes, it's true -- this update is nearly a full month late. We were just going to do one big update encompassing both October and November...but we figured we'd throw out October's real quickly so we're caught up by next week, when November's will come out.

It's hard to tell what milestones Charlie had reached 4 weeks ago (things change so quickly when you're 2), but we'll give it a quick guess:

  • Charlie can now do her ABC's, and count to 10!

  • She's generally fluent in English -- she understands everything you say, and can pretty much communicate her needs (sometimes not that clearly, but she'll say it over and over until you guess what she's trying to say).

  • She's still sleeping in her crib (by choice), and the golf balls and Elmo still accompany her to sleep every night. (But no more milk in bed -- that was a struggle, but she's got the hang of it now.)

  • Charlie has a very loud voice...and she pretty much talks non-stop, often very loudly.  Sometimes it's a song ("I know you, I walked with you once upon a dream!"), and it doesn't matter if we're in public or in the house.

  • She still loves her ballet class...whenever she's bored, she'll say, "Mommy, ballet now?". (There are some great pictures this month.)

  • Still loves dressing up as a princess...we get a request for at least a few different dresses every week.

  • Got to experience her first real Halloween, and did great -- a little shy at first, but she did the whole "trick or treat" thing (as long as there weren't scary noises or ghosts outside the house).

We'll have more complete updates in the next edition (next week).

For now, there are a bunch of pictures (feeding the cats, taking a bath, dancing, playing mini golf, at ballet, as a princess, at Halloween, and getting ready for bed), and there are 9 movies for month:

Charlie dances to B-I-N-G-O at a sing-along. (14 sec.) | Now she does a lot more dancing. (29 sec.) | It's time for the hokey-pokey! (54 sec.) | And we'll wrap up the event with some marching. (21 sec.) | Charlie sings the ABC's! (45 sec.) | The family goes miniature golfing, and Daddy helps Charlie. (37 sec.) | Charlie's still getting the hang of mini-golf. (32 sec.) | Afterwards, the girls went on the spinning swing! (7 sec.) | Charlie sees her first pumpkin carved on Halloween! (21 sec.)

Sorry for the lateness;  we'll try to make up for it next week.  Thanks for coming, by and we'll see you soon! (And go check out Alex's site, since it  just got a late update too.)

(11.26.05) I was Goldilocks on the 31st! (Watch me sing the ABC's!)

October 8, 2005:
Welcome to Charlie's site for September!  Lots of great updates for Charlie this month:

  • The speaking floodgates have opened -- she talks much of the time these days.  Her language is much better and clearer, and she's got a huge vocabulary.  She's excellent at communicating her needs now, and she's basically speaking in sentences ("Charlie's turn!  Me too!  Shoes from closet, go out with Alex."

  • She knows all of her numbers from 1-10 (and can count, recognize, and name them!).

  • She knows about 13 letters by sight (including M for Mommy, D for Daddy, C for Charlie, A for Alex), and she knows some sounds (mmm for M).

  • Charlie has started ballet, and she's doing great in the class -- she listens really well and keeps up with kids almost a year older.

  • She's very coordinated -- she kicks a ball and throws very well.

  • She loves to read books by herself for long periods of time (like, 30 books at a time, for 90 minutes sometimes).

  • When she drops Alex off at school, she tries to joins Alex's class -- she's getting ready for school.

  • She's still very easy-going, although she's not above whining a bit when she wants something (or whining a lot).

  • She absolutely loves to dance and put on shows.  "Look at Charlie!  Charlie is dancing!"

  • Charlie still has the whole Elmo/golf ball fixation.  She must have at least two of them with her at nearly all times (in bed, in the car).  Everything stops until she gets them.

  • She loves to dress up as princesses (Belle, Pocahontas, Mulan, doesn't matter).

  • She knows all of the princesses (although she has her own names for them.  Belle: "bees", Snow White: "apple", Cinderella: "brella", Sleeping Beauty: "uh-ro-ra" (Aurora), Ariel: "mermaid")

  • She can also do some pretend playing with figurines (she loves the little animals or dinosaurs).

  • She loves puzzles/homework -- anything that makes her think.

  • She still loves TV: Wiggles, Dora, Elmo's World.

  • Food:  no fresh fruits, just a few fresh vegetables, loves her carbs (pizza, rice, and pasta, mainly). Also yogurt and applesauce (feeds by herself).

  • She likes to climb into her car seat or booster seat by herself (and can now buckle herself in to the booster).

  • Fashion: loves her "no" shirt, likes to wear her bathing suit as a dress, and she's very particular about which jammies she wears (she usually wants to wear jammies for nap time).

  • Speaking of nap time:  everything has to be in the right order: two blankets positioned just right, her Elmo/balls, the shades pulled, etc.

We have less pictures than normal, but still quite a few:  in the backyard, at a picnic with Nonni and Papa, at the park, at ballet, with our new kittens, at the beach, and putting on a show.

We've got a whopping 16 movies to look at this month:

Watch Charlie catch  (26 sec.) | The girls do a little deck dancing. (20 sec.) | Charlie does some sneezing. (13 sec.) | The girls seem to sneeze a lot. (Funny!) (22 sec.) | Now, both girls get some catching in. (16 sec.) | Everyone went to a picnic with Nina and Papa. (7 sec.) | The girls like to wrestle sometimes. (20 sec.) | It's unusual, but the girls got to be in ballet class together! (10 sec.) | Part 2 of ballet class. (18 sec.) | Part 3 of ballet class. (33 sec.) | Now, Charlie is in ballet with other 2 year-olds! (10 sec.) | Part 2 of Charlie at ballet on her own. (25 sec.) | Part 3 of Charlie at ballet on her own. (28 sec.) | Part 4 of Charlie at ballet on her own. (32 sec.) | The girls put on a dancing show (with costumes)! (14 sec.)

That's it for this month!  Thanks for visiting. Alex's site was just updated too, so go visit it!

(10.08.05) I've started ballet classes! (Watch me pretend to sneeze!)

September 5, 2005:
In her first month as a two-year-old, Charlie still is working on the pronunciation of all of her words -- she's got a ton of them (literally, hundreds), but they're not always that clear;  there's a lot of deciphering going on by her parents.  We're still surprised when a real clear sentence comes out (this morning, she was playing with Alex, and Alex headed upstairs to get something:  "Wait, Alex!  Play with me!").

She's still excellent at puzzles and cognitive thinking, and she's pretty good at entertaining herself.  She loves the princesses, but everything still pales in comparison to the TV (Wiggles and Elmo still dominate).  She can now count to 10! (See the movie below.)

She is very loose-limbed:  we probably get a solid fall (full-out, onto her chest) at least two or three times a day (although she almost always pops up:  "Are you OK?"  "Yes!").  When you play physical games with her, she'll relax completely (she loves when Daddy bounces her on the couch).

We're also solidly entrenched in the "terrible twos" -- temper tantrums can happen any time.  And when she throws one, she'll lay down and kick and scream;  sometimes we just have to let them go.  Especially since time-outs don't really affect her -- it's still a game to her (she almost likes taking them, and usually emerges with a smile on her face).

She still goes to bed every night with a Disney-logo golf ball and a very specific Elmo figurine, and she still wants her two blankets draped over her in a specific way.  Charlie got a new "big-girl" bed, but still prefers to sleep in her crib.  She's got a lot of little quirks like that (more than Alex, as far as we can remember).

Also different than Alex, Charlie is not just a "Momma's Girl" -- of course, Mommy is still her favorite, but she loves going with Nina and Papa for the day, and Daddy has no problem being the primary care-giver.

She's still as cute as ever with that hair flopping everywhere;  people mention it everywhere we go. (And we'll see...it might have led to a family commercial with eBay!  More on that next month, hopefully.)

Anyway, we've got a lot of pictures this month: at the beach, in her new bed, at the park, at the library, at the circus, with her cousins Savannah and Orion, at a luau, in the pool, with Nina and Papa, at a fake birthday party, at the Chargers' game, and with her cousin Cade.

We also have 9 movies to look at this month:

Charlie got a new big girl bed! (16 sec.) | Alex and Charlie played on the bed (and fought?) (35 sec.) | Charlie chased bunnies in the park. (19 sec.) | Here's some distracted counting at the park. (25 sec.) | Charlie can count up to 10! (16 sec.) | Here's some more counting. (19 sec.) | There's too much noise in the kitchen! (36 sec.) | Here's 25 seconds of a good temper tantrum. (25 sec.) | The cousins watched and performed at the library. (45 sec.)

Thanks for checking out Charlie's site for August. Alex's site was just updated too, so go visit it!

(9.05.05) It's a fake birthday party! (Watch me throw a temper tantrum!)

August 7, 2005:
Charlie just turned 2!  She had a birthday party last month, and lots of birthday-related activities.

Some general Charlie updates, as she crosses her second birthday milestone:

  • Her speech, while plentiful and frequent, still isn't that clear.  She knows many, many words, and she often uses three-word phrases ("here it is", "Charlie come now", "cold milk please"), but lots of her words are rather slurred.  Definitely coming along, but not there yet.

  • Her favorite things in the world are clearly Elmo and the Wiggles.

  • She's got a healthy appetite, but generally likes things plain (like her sister).

  • She copies everything Alex does (dancing, movements, speech, everything).

  • She loves to swim and dance, and play with her princess figurines.

  • She doesn't mind taking naps or going to bed (putting up a token fuss), as long as she has cold milk, Elmo and a golf ball.

  • She will read books for hours if you let her.  And every book will come out of the shelf (we're working on putting them back).

  • She's starting to sing and count to 10...but she's definitely a few months behind where Alex was at this point.

  • She's starting to throw some temper tantrums...but they're generally short-lived, and usually only when she's tired or hungry (both situations easily remedied).

She was very excited about her birthday (and learned the "Happy Birthday" song -- she'd been practicing blowing out her candles for weeks, and succeeded when the moment called).

We've got a whole bunch of pictures from her birthday and other events for the month: a visit from cousins Roberta and Larry, a pre-birthday visit from Grandma and Grandpa, tons of Elmo-related birthday party pictures, some from the swimming pool and Benihana's on her actual birth-day, and then a bunch of different activities, including bathing, sleep ritual, Sea World, dancing, reading, and the doctor's office.

We also have 13 movies to check out:

Alex dresses as Elmo, much to Charlie's delight (19 sec) | Grandma and Grandpa brought a new Elmo toy! (15 sec.) | Charlie makes an attempt at singing Happy Birthday. (23 sec.) | The girls dance in their pretty pink dresses. (20 sec.) | This Happy Birthday song was a little better. (18 sec.) | Before my birthday, I went to the library! (25 sec.) | At my birthday party, I went in the jumpy thing! (15 sec.) | Then I blew out the candles on my cake. (20 sec.) | And finally, I had to choose an Elmo cupcake! (25 sec.) | Here's Charlie trying to count (she's starting to get it). (12 sec.) | The girls danced on the deck at dusk! (24 sec.) | Ouch!  Shots at the doctor can hurt! (12 sec.) | Charlie doesn't quite have the Pledge down yet. (28 sec.)

That wraps up the month of July! Alex's site just got an update as well, so go check it out!

(8.07.05) Swimming on my birthday! (Watch me blow out the candles!)

July 5, 2005:
Charlie is almost two years old!  Her birthday is coming up at the end of June, and she's getting very excited -- she loves it when we sing Happy Birthday to her.  She's been practicing for weeks now.

Lots of fun stuff to report from Charlie-ville this month;  she talks pretty much all the time (it's a game to try to figure out what she's saying, because she's always saying something, it's just not always that clear).  But her phrases are coming along nicely (when we were picking out a jacket the other day, she said, "pink jacket" so clearly it kind of shocked us).  Her requests and commands are coming along too ("more cheese", "all done, down", "Daddy play", etc.).  Her vocabulary is probably well over 100 words by now, and she knows all of the colors pretty well.

Last week, Charlie dislocated her elbow pulling too hard in the car seat.  Alex did the exact same thing at the same age, but by the time we took Alex to the hospital, she was fine;  Charlie still wasn't using the arm the next day, so they put it in a bright pink cast (which she's currently in;  pictures inside).  She doesn't seem to mind it, and we think she's probably fine by now (she uses the arm in the cast, and doesn't complain about it).  But the cast is on until next week, like it or not.

Charlie still has all of her funny things;  for example, when she thinks she might have done something wrong (even if she didn't), she says "Time out", and she puts herself in time out, like her sister, facing the corner.  She even does a fake cry (like Alex does).  We try not to laugh too hard.

Some other Charlie things:  she likes cold milk (unlike her sister).  She loves to play with princesses still.  She likes to line up about 50 figurines on the table and make stories with them.  She still absolutely loves her little Elmo toys and must have at least one when she goes to sleep.  The golf balls (also with her in bed) are a constant companion as well (her favorite is a Mickey Mouse ball ("mickey! mickey!") that she got at Disneyland).

She still gets up very early (around 6 am, announcing to the world that she's awake in a VERY loud voice), and she loves to wear shoes.  She also loves to ride things -- toy cars, ponies, swings, etc.  Her new favorite is the bike;  she's thrilled about putting her helmet on and riding around the back while Daddy cruises around town.  She also likes to draw;  check out a few of her drawings here!

Charlie was NOT very good at the dentist the other day, and it's usually a struggle to brush her teeth.  But she's very healthy (almost never getting sick), and she's got a hearty appetite (her favorites include yogurt, pasta, bagels and American cheese).

Not too many photo shoots lately, although we just found a picture of her dressed in American Idol clothing here.

We've got a ton of pictures for the month of June:  the park, the zoo, a live Elmo show, the Del Mar fair, riding ponies at a birthday party, swimming (and hula dancing) at another party, taking a bath, going to a luau party, wishing Daddy a Happy Father's Day, at the dentist, at the mall, at Disneyland, making birthday cakes, and getting her face painted. (It was a very busy month!)

We also have 11 movies for your viewing enjoyment:

Charlie does some talking. (28 sec) | This little piggy went to the market... (29 sec.) | And now some more talking. (34 sec.) | Alex and Charlie go on a pony ride! (34 sec.) | And now they're on the Merry-Go-Round at the Del Mar Fair. (12 sec.) | Charlie and Alex do some great hula dancing! (19 sec.) | The girls play with legos while waiting at the Dentist. (26 sec.) | Then they drive a hysterically funny car at the mall! (24 sec.) | Then Charlie rides the Toucan at the park. (7 sec.) | Charlie jumps in the bouncy thing with her cast on. (23 sec.) | And finally, leopard-faced Charlie watches a clown! (14 sec.)

That'll do it for June!  If you get a chance, take at look at Charlie's sister Alex's site -- lots of fun pictures and movies there too!

(7.05.05) My hair is straight for once! (Watch me jump with my cast on!)

June 5, 2005:
Well, the vocabulary light has certainly been turned on in Charlie -- the words flow from her now, nearly non-stop.  She's starting to put sentences together now ("I go up" or "Daddy milk please").  The words aren't always the clearest, but they're getting there.  Lots of babbling, with "sentences" that end in words. ("Blah blah blah Elmo."  "Blah blah blah milk."  "Blah blah blah "leave shoes on".)

There's another light that has been turned on:  PRINCESSES.  Yes, Charlie has taken after her sister, and loves the Disney princesses.  Included among her many words are "Ariel", "Aurora", "Belle", "Apple" (for Snow White), and others.  She loves to read the princess books, and is spellbound if one comes on TV.

Speaking of TV...Charlie is still a glutton for it.  There are a lot of questions you can ask that have nothing to do with TV, and the answer that comes back will still be "Elmo, TV".  She also likes Dora and the Wiggles, and knows all the characters in each.  We've significantly cut back her time on TV (but it seems to just make her want it more, for now!).

These days, it's tough to get Charlie to go to sleep if she's not holding two things:  an Elmo figurine (and not just any one, it has to be a specific one), and at least one golf ball.  She'll wait for an hour to make sure she has them (with a big nod of the head to acknowledge that you're going to get Elmo, and that she's going to wait), rather than go to sleep. (She'll carry the Elmo/golf ball tandem around for a few hours a day as well.)

Lots and lots of pictures this month:  Mother's day festivities, playing outside, playing with the cats, swimming, playing the piano, helping Papa fix things, at Alex's birthday party (dressed in an Asian outfit), "playing" miniature golf, and practicing for a Pampers commercial (that she almost certainly didn't get).

We also have 8 movies for your viewing enjoyment:

Charlie and Daddy squirm on the couch! (5 sec.) | Charlie and Alex say hi to Daddy on the swing! (7 sec.) | Playing with her sand and bucket at the pool. (15 sec.) | Playing the "piano"! (16 sec.) | Now the girls play and dance with the piano. (16 sec.) | Playing with the big girls at Alex's birthday. (21 sec.) | Experiments with play-do. (21 sec.) | Showing off her knowledge of the princesses. (45 sec.)

(In addition to these new movies, we also added 10 from last month!)

OK, that wraps up May's update.  Now go visit Alex's site -- she just turned four years old!

(6.05.05) I love swimming! (Watch me name the princesses!)

May 2, 2005:
Miss Charlie Mac
is certainly a rather unique child -- she has so many interesting personality traits, we constantly find ourselves laughing at the things she does, whether it's tensing her whole body and shaking her head to make a point (not necessarily when she's angry), or she's making one of her toys make the same sound 50 or 60 times in a row.

This month, we've got lots of babbling mixed in with a growing vocabulary:  new words include "monkey", zebra", "happy", "thank you", "more", "again", and "circle", plus a bunch of others.  She's also starting to put two-word combinations together: "Mama down" (if she wants to get down), or "A-ya book" (meaning she's looking at a book of Alex's).

She's also become quite skilled at recognizing animals by both name and sound, and she can make the sounds of most pets and barnyard animals (cat, dog, goat, sheep, cow, pig, rabbit ("mee mee mee"), monkey, elephant, horse, fish, and a few others).

She still loves to run around naked, particularly when she can run and jump face-down into a beanbag on the floor.  She's a good dancer, even teaching Daddy how to do the wave by holding your fingers and moving your arms.  And she loves to do the chicken dance.

Charlie is not a big meat-eater.  She'll eat chicken or steak every once in awhile, but prefers to live on pasta and rice and cheese.  Mommy and Daddy make sure she gets a jar of fruit or vegetables or yogurt with every meal (but don't remember having to do the same for Alex when she got close to two).

She's entering a little "clingy" phase;  she never likes to be separated from Mommy, but she's also fine if she's just with Daddy (it's the act of Mommy leaving that's the challenge).  But she's still a pretty good sleeper, and now she loves to climb into bed with Alex every night for stories -- no complaints at all when she's put in her crib afterwards.

We may have passed the window for the photo shoots -- not because she's not getting called anymore (she is), but because she doesn't always behave too well on the shoots.  Two drives up to LA for Lands' End last week resulted in no photos taken;  one because she wouldn't try the new clothes on, and another when the shoot was taking place near a slide and swings, and all she wanted to do was go to them rather than sit for the camera. (But we did have a successful Infantino shot in San Diego the other day, so you never know.)

We don't have as many pictures this month as we did last month, but there are still some good ones:  at LegoLand, at the park, tears in the flowers, out in front of the house with an umbrella and Peanut, and in bed with the two new kittens. No movies this month, for the first time ever. (Edited to add movies)

Where's Charlie? (11 sec.) |  | Charlie dances to Elmo music. (21 sec.) | Story time with the girls! (16 sec.) |  | The girls play with their cats! (19 sec.) | The girls follow instructions. (18 sec.) | Charlie makes animal sounds. (40 sec.) | Charlie gets really wrapped up in a book. (38 sec.) | Charlie goes on the swing. (13 sec.) | Charlie shows off some of her words. (35 sec.) | The girls do some jumping on the bed! (35 sec.)

That'll do it for April...now go visit Alex's site!  See you at the end of the month!

(5.02.05) A new kitty! Mow mow! (No movies this month!)

April 3, 2005:
Some updates from the world of Charlie:

  • There are very few times that Charlie isn't carrying something around with her -- it's usually a golf ball, but it might also be a little Elmo figurine, a necklace, a cup, or some combination of two of them (she often has to put something down to pick up something like a bottle of milk or some food).

  • Her sorting and puzzle-solving skills took a huge leap forward this month:  she can sort by colors, and put simple puzzles together quickly.

  • She still loves her books -- put her near a stack of books and she'll be happy for a good half hour.

  • Much like her sister, she's a big carbohydrate fan:  if she had her way, she'd only eat rice, pasta, and bread.  We have to feed her a jar of veggies or fruits or yogurt a few times a day to make sure she's eating OK.

  • Also like her sister, she loves to play "pretend" games -- she'll give you a glass to drink "mulk" with, or play with the "a-muh-goes" (plastic animals), and make them kiss.

  • She loves to hug and kiss, and she's even good at giving them to her grandparents (both sides) when they're leaving.

  • She's started a new "fake crying" trend:  she'll cry in protest whenever Alex takes something from her, or things don't go her way.  The second she gets her way, the tears completely stop.

  • She's also still transfixed by TV.  Can't possibly get enough Elmo.

  • She misses Alex when she drops her off at school, often crying when she has to leave (and pulling Alex by the hand to make her come with her).

  • And she loves to do things with Alex:  she usually cries "A-ya, A-ya" to show her something or give her things.  Alex can make her laugh very easily, just by doing something silly.

Charlie isn't going on quite as many photo shoots these days, but there's still a few each month (some pictures are included from Disney and Lands' End in the pictures section).

Speaking of pictures, we've got a ridiculous amount this month (134 to be exact):  at Alex's school, at the park, at the zoo, in the backyard, at a birthday party, at Chuck E. Cheese (her favorite), at home, on the toilet (not potty-trained yet), at Easter Egg hunts, in the car, with Grandma and Grandpa, and at her cousin Cadence's first birthday. We also have a whopping 13 movies:

Charlie tries to do the ballet moves she just saw Alex do. (9 sec.) | Reading her favorite book at her desk! (12 sec.) | She can now successfully sort colors! (34 sec.) | Charlie can turn the lights on and off in her room. (19 sec.) | She can also play with her magna-doodle. (30 sec.) | Mommy...milk! (7 sec.) |
She's a cowgirl (who needs her cup to ride). (35 sec.) | Here's a new word: "Circle" (11 sec.) | Charlie likes to run in circles...a lot. (19 sec.) | She also likes jumping in the jumpy-thing. (8 sec.) | Beware of the swing monster! (18 sec.) | The swing monster (Daddy) is out again! (15 sec.) | We'll finish with a dual-peeing movie. (16 sec.)

That's it for this month! Now go check out her sister Alex's site, if you haven't already.  See you in a few weeks!

(4.03.05) Time to drive the car! (Watch me sort colors!)

February 28, 2005:
The light continues to turn on for Charlie, as her vocabulary finally started opening up this month.  This is still a very, um, particular child -- she's got her own way of doing things.  But she's eminently cute and cuddly and affectionate (her kisses and hugs are great!), and she can often go through a day without crying;  there are very few babies as easy-going as Charlie Mac.  Let's tackle a whole bunch of updates, bullet-point style:

  • As mentioned, she's got a lot of words that she uses now, understanding that they're an easy way to get what she wants:  "hi", "bye", "book", "ball", "yogurt", "spoon", "purple", "yellow", "blue", "apple", "banana", "circle", "triangle", "square", "baby", "out", "up", "down", "nana", "papa", "mama", "dada", "poo poo", "pee pee", "backpack", "map", "Dora", and "Elmo".  She puts some two word sentences together as well: "Mama up", "yogurt apple spoon".

  • She can identify most things in a book when you ask her: "Where's the dog?"  "Where's the duck?" -- her understanding of English has taken many leaps forward recently, and she can follow instructions pretty well: "Charlie, put the books back in the drawer."

  • She understands now when she's gone poo-poo or pee-pee, and can sometimes go pee in the potty.  When she goes poop, she tells us (hooray).

  • She can now walk down the front steps! (Watch!)

  • She's got a great imagination, and likes to pretend to eat fake food.

  • She loves to be naked, just loves it.

  • As documented in pictures inside, she has an odd "wake-up" routine:  absolutely everything has to come out of the crib with her (pillows, blankets, books, etc.).

  • Still addicted to the TV...hard to get her to pay attention to anything else if it's on.  Especially likes Elmo and Dora.

  • She's got 11 teeth these days, with one odd one in the front.

  • She knows lots of animal sounds, and can say "moo", "quack", "sssss", "meow", "ribbit", and "ruff".

  • She doesn't really play with dolls like her sister did, preferring balls and books and balloons and small items, like blocks and little bears (I guess she likes things that start with "b").

  • She's not too social with other babies, but likes to play with the older kids.

  • Still absolutely loves music (and Daddy's phone that plays music), and really enjoys drawing.

  • Likes to sit in chairs...a lot.

  • At Alex's school, she likes to put Alex's lunch box in the cubbie in the morning and pick it out in the afternoon (out of about 30 other kids' lunchboxes).

  • She can now drink from a drinking fountain.

  • She auditioned for a commercial the other day (and didn't get it), but she's still doing regular ad shoots.

  • Speaking of ad shoots, she's very tolerant of long car drives.

  • She's become a very fast runner, and can jump surprisingly high.

  • And finally, she doesn't like to be messy...if her clothes get dirty, they're coming off.

There are quite a few (more than 60) pictures this month as we celebrate the return of our digital camera:  her "wake-up" routine, at the supermarket, playing with chalk (progressively losing clothes), dancing, walking down steps, playing in the backyard, playing at the park, reading books, walking with an umbrella in the rain, playing with older kids, having fun at Disneyland, and more. We also have a whopping 9 movies this month:

Charlie walks around babbling in her pajamas (18 sec.) | Then she tries to get a balloon into her car! (VERY funny) (30 sec.) | She can now walk down the stairs by herself! (13 sec.) | Watch Charlie wash herself outside. (16 sec., sideways) | We had lots of rain this month;  Charlie loved it! (9 sec.) | Alex helped Charlie play the piano! (15 sec.) | Charlie got to ride the Merry-go-round at Disneyland! (16 sec.) | She's getting very good at doing simple puzzles... (39 sec.) | ...and at babbling. (23 sec.)

Thanks for stopping by;  now go check out her sister Alex's site, if you haven't already.  See you next month!

(2.28.05) Look how long my hair is! (Watch me drive a car with a balloon!)

January 30, 2005:
Charlie is a very interesting little girl.  She's got an eclectic personality, for certain -- while you can tell that she's a member of the family, she's definitely very different than her sister (among other things, we don't think this is going to be a princess-obsessed girl...she's not very interested in dolls).

For instance, when she gets out of her crib, she absolutely must have her pillow and two blankets taken with her.  She only wants them for a minute or two, but they absolutely must vacate the crib with her.  We also note, by the way, that she's clearly not talking as much as her sister did at this age -- lots of babbling, certainly, and she's definitely advancing more and more recently, but she's only got about 15 or 20 words that she says (although she understands everything quite well).  She's quite fluent in her babbling language, however.

Charlie loves to tell you what she needs and then walk away, as if you understood her and you'll be getting it for her.  But at long last, there have been some good words added this month: "backpack" (while watching Dora), "apple" (when requesting yogurt), "pillow", "toes", "head", "hat", and a few others.

As mentioned, she loves to draw, especially with pencils and the magna-doodle.  She enjoys playing with balls and blocks, and she likes putting things in and taking them out, or putting the tops or lids on things.

Temper tantrums have definitely started:  if she doesn't get what she want, she can throw a fit for a good three minutes -- don't even bother trying to calm her down.  Once she's done, she's a happy little girl again.

We've got some good pictures this month:  at home, at the park, on the swings, going shopping, getting a bath, making faces in the mirror, playing on the bed, and getting ready for night-night. There's just one movie this month: Watch Charlie do the Itsy-Bitsy Spider (kind of)! (26 sec.)

OK, we're all caught up! If you have a second, go take a look at Alex's site, since it just got updated too.  See you later!

(1.30.05) I see you there, Mommy! (Watch me do the Itsy-Bitsy Spider (kind of)!)

January 9, 2005:
This last month has seen lots of words start coming out of little Miss Charlie Mac, whose personality is really shining through now.

We'll start with the talking:  we noticed that at similar ages, Charlie wasn't talking nearly as much as her sister did...but that's over now.  She's talking nearly all the time now -- of course, most of it is babbling, but she's got about 15 or 20 words that are quite clear.  Among others:  "no", "yes", "mama" (lovely, when heard at 2am over and over again), "dada", "papa", "ball", "book", "more", "cow", "baa" (for a sheep sound), and "moo".  She's definitely experimenting with sound these days, and she can get exceptionally loud at times (as Uncle Eddie and Aunt Denise experienced firsthand when they visited over Christmas).

She loves to play games -- "Peanut Butter" is a favorite, but she also loves to play with balls (she's got a good arm already), and she likes to put things in order (princesses, cups, any series of similar objects).  When you say "A", she says "B".  (And then after "C", she says "D", but the game stops there...for now.)

Charlie loves to draw and paint (although paper often becomes too confining for her, and any table surface is fair game).  She's a big dancer -- put some music on, and she starts shaking her bottom and turning around in circles.  And she loves to make people laugh...especially by making funny faces (her favorite is when she crinkles up her nose).

Things Charlie loves:  Elmo, books, music, rice, pasta, vegetables, singing, nursing (yes, once or twice a day still), balls (big, small, doesn't matter), and putting things in/taking them out.

Things Charlie likes:  Little People (figurines), blocks, stacking things.

Things Charlie hates:  very loud noises, losing toys (or rather, getting them taken away by her sister), fresh fruit, and the garbage truck.

There are lots of pictures this month: we start with some nice family pictures, then some from Benihana's for Mommy's birthday (of course), a few with cousin Orion (playing with books), a couple in front of the Christmas tree (they get a little racy!), some with her wearing new clothes, riding a bike, at Disneyland, at Chuck E. Cheese, with Santa, ice skating, at the grandparents' for Christmas, and more! There's just one movie this month: Watch Charlie ride a tricycle with Papa's help! (35 sec.)

Oh, and the photo shoots are picking up again...Charlie seems to get every job she gets called for.

That'll do it for December -- whew, the holidays are over!  Now go look at Alex's site, and we'll see you next month!

(1.09.04) Off to another shoot! (Watch Charlie ride a tricycle!)

December 2, 2004:
November saw Charlie grow by leaps and bounds...we'll go through some of the highlights, in bullet points:

  • Gotta start with Elmo -- there's nothing that she likes better (literally...even Mommy plays second-fiddle when Elmo is on TV).  She can get glued to Elmo for 40 minutes at a time, and if she's fussy, just sing the Elmo song and she calms down.

  • Speaking of TV:  loves it.  Need to break that habit soon.

  • Loves music, too, and will stop and dance whenever she hears it.

  • Enjoys feeding herself with a spoon (resulting in fun messes).

  • She absolutely loves to be naked, running around the house wildly (and then usually peeing on the tile).

  • Her communication skills are getting very good, although we only have a few words (Mama, Dada, Elmo, Ball, More, Yum, Dog, Baby, Swing, Wheee, Uh oh).  But she can communicate many other words with facial gestures, grunts, etc. (like book, yogurt, up, mine, me, I want that).

  • She knows the following body parts:  head, nose, mouth, ears, toes, belly button, belly, shoulder, hand, fingers, feet, legs, arms, hair.

  • Modeling:  SIX shoots in November, for Disney (2), Nordstrom's, BabyStyle, Babies R Us, and Infantino.

  • She's starting to get a little finicky about food -- she just loves starches (pasta, rice, bread), and vegetables (broccoli, yams, zucchini).

  • She got two new teeth (molars) on each side on the top (8 teeth total).

  • She's been a little sick at the end of the month, leading to early (and often) wake ups.

  • She can now open doors, pull her own pants off, flip through books, put on necklaces, and put things in containers (crayons, toys).

  • She can pretend to brush her hair and talk on the phone, and she loves to play with little furniture and figurines.

  • She knows that a lion roars (rah), a dog barks (woof), and a cow sneezes (from a book).

  • Her favorite toy has to be books -- she plays in the book drawer for long periods of time, and just loves flipping through them and carrying them around.

  • And she loves to play:  likes to be chased, and she knows how to be silly.

There are lots of pictures this month: Charlie playing at the park (mostly on the slides and swings), getting hugged (hard) by her sister, eating ice cream for the first time, playing on the bouncy things at Paige's party, at a Disney shoot, at Thanksgiving, playing with her toys, and posing for some eBay auction pictures.  There are also 10 movies this month:

Watch Alex catch me coming down the slide! (24 sec.) | I love when Mommy pushes me on the swing! (10 sec.) | Alex and I ran in the open field, and it was fun! (16 sec.) | Daddy took me on the bouncy thing at Paige's party. (5 sec) | Then I went on the bouncy thing by myself. (16 sec.) | Daddy and I followed Alex down the big slide. (19 sec.) | And then Mommy took me down too! (12 sec.) | I tried to find the plane in the sky. (25 sec.) | But then I figured I'd just run (and fall). (16 sec.) | Watch me play with musical Pooh bear! (8 sec.)

OK, that's it for this month.  Now go check out Alex's site, and we'll see you after Christmas!

(12.02.04) Off to another shoot! (Watch me play with musical Pooh!)

October 31, 2004:
What a month for little Charlie Mac!  Her vocabulary is coming along nicely, and she's proving to be a very fun little girl (she'll be exiting "toddler" stage soon enough).  We've got a ton of updates for you this month:

  • Her words include "dog", "baby", "milk", "mama", "dada", "Alex" (Ah-ya), "more", "swing" (swee), and "Elmo".

  • If you ask her what sound a dog makes, she says "ruff ruff ruff!".

  • She absolutely loves to run around screaming with her sister in the living room, and then flopping down face first onto the beanbag.

  • Some of her favorite things:  Elmo (from Sesame Street, she can't get enough of him), hats (she'll wear them all day), shoes (she gets them out of the closet and begs to have them put on), and books (she likes them to be read to her over and over again, with a pointed "More!", even after the 5th straight reading).

  • When music comes on, she likes to dance, turning around in circles.

  • She can understand commands, like "Give the water bottle to Mommy", or "Go get your socks and bring them here".

  • Charlie never went to a bottle, going straight to a sippy cup.  We're currently in the final stages of weaning her from breastmilk.  (She goes crazy when milk gets put in the microwave.)

  • And finally, she just loves to ride things:  the bike (she begs to go on with Daddy), the car (she likes going in her car seat), slides (she goes on them over and over again at the park), Daddy (if Daddy lies down on the carpet, she climbs on his back), and Peanut (she's on top of the dog about 6 times a day, much to his delight).

Charlie is also going on a number of shoots these days (including a Disney tryout).  Here's a link to a current ad campaign with her in it:

We have are over 50 pictures this month: sitting with cousin Cadence, playing in a bouncy thing, playing at the park and outside, standing by the window in many different outfits, playing in the laundry basket with lots of colorful balls, at a Halloween carnival (even riding a pony!), and trick-or-treating on Halloween night  We also have 5 videos this month::

Charlie just loves to go on the swing. (7 sec.) | It's a baby in the laundry basket, with colorful balls. (11 sec.) | What happens when the basket tips? (26 sec.) | Afterwards, Charlie and I rode a pony!  (12 sec.) | Charlie helps Alex pet a bunny. (8 sec.)

That covers the Halloween edition;  now go visit Alex's site, since it just got its monthly update as well!  See you after Thanksgiving!

(10.31.04) I just love hats. (Watch me play in the laundry basket!)

October 2, 2004:
It's been a fun month for Charlie Mac:  her vocabulary (or her verbalizations, anyway) has increased significantly, and her personality continues to shine through (and only in good ways).

Vocabulary:  Charlie has a ton of sounds she makes now, and she's very clear about what she wants.  She can actually say "sweeee" for "swing" (which she loves and will point to and say "sweeee" whenever she sees one) and "ba!" for "dog", and her "dada" is finally coming around!  But she also does "mmmm" for "milk", and she loves to say "wheee" when she's having fun.  Also "up", "a-sa" (for "outside"), and "a-ya" (for "Alex").

Interesting things about Charlie:

  • She absolutely loves music and dancing, and will stop and watch whenever music comes on. (Yesterday, she was transfixed as a musician was playing and singing acoustically.)

  • She's exceptionally trusting in the house...so much so, that she'll sometimes walk around "loose-limbed", knowing that a fall on the carpet won't hurt, or that someone will catch her if she stumbles.

  • She also can get very stiff when she's angry...sometimes she does a fist-clench with a scream when a toy is taken away from her.

  • She still eats a ton -- no question more than her sister.  She'll eat dinner until you take it away from her.

  • She still loves her hammer and shovel (many pictures have one or the other in her hand).

  • She can get a little clingy to Mama, especially when she's tired...but unlike Alex was as a baby, she's fine being handed off to Daddy (most of the time).

  • She loves her new big-girl (facing forward) car seat!

And she's still about as easy-going a baby as they come.

There are quite a few pictures this month:  getting wet in the sprinkler, at a party, at KidsTown, at Sea World, making a mess while eating, at Daddy's birthday, and more.  We also have 8 videos this month::

Playing in the sprinklers is fun! (14 sec.) | Daddy read to me and Alex. (12 sec.) | I sat on a big drum at a party. (10 sec.) | I made a huge mess while eating! (24 sec.) | At least I was trying to use a spoon. (35 sec.) | Watch me dance at a wedding! (16 sec.) | More wedding dancing. (12 sec.) | Here's a movie of me and Alex on Daddy's birthday! (13 sec.)

That'll do it for this month's edition.  Now go visit Alex's site too -- it just got updated!  See you next month!

(10.2.04) Yee-ha! (Watch me play in the sprinklers!)

August 28, 2004:
As Charlie becomes a true toddler, we have to watch her everywhere -- she never stops moving!  That's probably the reason she eats so much.  Yes, this child is an eater:  she'll eat pretty much anything you give her, and she doesn't know when to stop!  We used to give her one cube of food (we freeze veggies/fruits in ice cube trays)...then two, which was tough to get done.  Then we went to three, and now we're at four -- for starters!  After she eats her "appetizer", she sits with us at dinner and eats for the next 45 minutes:  meat, chicken, rice, potatoes, cheese, pasta -- whatever, in it goes.  And somehow she maintains her figure! :-)

She loves to dance to music...little hops and spins and sashays.  She's a huge fan of Elmo (much like her sister was), and she loves to walk around holding Daddy's eye drops, or a hammer, or a shovel.  Often, in some sort of odd communication, she'll let out a big yell, stiffening up her body and clenching her fists.

She can say Mama and (kind of) Dada, and, she makes some consistent sounds for "dog" and "hat", and she does a fairly good job of following commands ("get the hat and give it to Mommy").  She can tell you where her head, mouth and tongue are.  She's got 5 teeth, with a sixth on the way

We've got some fun pictures this month:  at the doctor, with some crayons, running around at Sea World, shopping, on the deck, and dancing. There are also have 5 videos this month::

Watch me put the crayons in the box! (12 sec.) | It's fun to bounce around Sea World! (7 sec.) | More running, this time with Alex. (9 sec.) | Now I'm playing out on the deck! (11 sec.) | Did I mention I love to dance? (12 sec.)

Thanks so much for checking out the site!  If you get a chance, go check out the site of Charlie's sister, Alex (it just got updated too!). That about wraps it up for this edition;  thanks for stopping by!

(8.28.04) I'm such a happy girl! (Watch me bounce around Sea World!)

August 4, 2004:
Wow...where to start this month -- so many things are happening!

First and foremost, Charlie turned ONE YEAR OLD!  She had a fun birthday party -- she had a blast playing in the water, just like she always does.  She's also been going on quite a few modeling shoots lately -- Mommy is always driving her up to LA (and further) so people can donate to Charlie's college fund. Her pictures are starting to show up in a bunch of places:  Nordstrom's (two shoots), Baby Style (three shoots), Parents Magazine, and more.  Here are some links to Charlie's pictures currently online:

Infantino:  ZooMobile Infantino:  SlingRider Infantino:  GoGoRider Infantino:  GoCart Infantino:  CribFriendsBabyStyle.com (right on the front page!);  and her JetSet modeling page.  There are bound to be a bunch more resulting from all of her recent shoots.

In personality updates, Charlie is really shining through!  She's still so happy and agreeable most of the time, and she never cries if she's not tired or hungry. She loves to get fed by daddy (she wolfs down almost anything...she loves yams and meat), and she loves feeding herself (especially bread).  She absolutely loves to walk (never crawling), and she practices all the time.  She's cuddly, playful, independent, and she learns very quickly:  she now knows to touch her head when you say "Where's your head?"  She likes to climb the stairs, she can smile on request, she says "mama", "da", "baby", and "ba" (for dog or ball).  She has some favorite toys (a hammer, her walkers, balls), and she loves music, climbing into drawers, stuffed animals (especially her cookie monster), and taking things in and out.  She doesn't like being messy

There are no shortage of pictures over the last month:  shots from Alex's ballet class, a ladybug party, a bunch of modeling shots, a few of her swimming in the pool, at the beach, at her BIRTHDAY PARTY, playing with the dog, and playing in the sandbox outside. We also have 5 videos this month::

If Alex can do ballet, I can walk! (16 sec.) | I like to pick things up while I walk. (35 sec.) | More walking, this time while waiting with Mommy. (13 sec.) | I like to climb into this kitchen drawer whenever I can! (15 sec.)

That about wraps it up for this edition;  thanks for stopping by! Alex's site just got updated as well, so go check it out!

(8.4.04) I'm getting lots of photo shoots! (Watch me climb into the kitchen drawer.)

July 7, 2004:
The big news for Charlie:  she's walking!  Yes, just before the calendar marked her 11th month, Charlie took her first solid steps.  Now, two weeks later, she's cruising around the house -- still falling quite often, but she can get where she wants to go.  Of course, she still loves to use her walker, but she's starting to experience life beyond it.

Charlie is also just getting over a bout of roseola...and, in typical Charlie fashion, it has hardly fazed her.  In fact -- unlike her sister, who got very sick, very rashy, and couldn't sleep during the episode around the same age -- we didn't even realize she had it until it was pretty much over.  No complaining, no sleep issues, very little rash.

Speaking of sleep, Charlie is on a great schedule:  11 hours at night, then she's up for 3, down for 2, up for 3, down for 2, up for 3, and back to the 11 hours.  Very predictable...her parents are getting spoiled!

Charlie is eating everything in site, and she can feed herself finger foods very well.  She'll pretty much eat anything you stick in front of her, but her favorite, without question:  meat!  Meatballs, steak, hamburger, whatever...she puts her (still only) two teeth to use!

She remains tolerant of getting manhandled by a well-intentioned Alex, and they're even starting to play together.  Alex loves to give Charlie some of her favorite toys (Charlie loves a little wooden hammer).

Charlie is entering the "mimic" phase:  ask her to stick out her tongue, and she'll oblige.  She can wave, clap, and say a few words (mama, baba (Daddy), ba (dog), ha (hi)).  And she absolutely loves music, even doing a little dance when she hears some good tunes.

Ah, and one last thing:  Daddy gives Charlie her bath in the kitchen sink every night (Alex, too), before Mommy puts the kids to bed...and Charlie absolutely doesn't mind getting her hair or face wet.  No struggling, no crying.  (Just pointing out differences from what we're used to!)

Lots of pictures from the past 3 weeks:  of course, lots of walking pics, but also some from Lydia's wedding, Father's Day, Grandma and Grandpa's house (with GG), the pool, cleaning out drawers around the house (she's into everything these days), and more! There are also 11 fun videos:

Here's a movie from when I was just thinking about walking! (9 sec.) | Now I'm warming up...using my walker. (10 sec.) | Alex and I played in the pool together. (12 sec.) | Now it's June 25, and you can see I'm taking steps. (11 sec.) | Here's another quick walk/fall movie the next day. (7 sec.) | I walk to Momma...and say "Mama"! (3 sec.) | Here's the best walk movie up to this point. (20 sec.) | Sometimes when I walk, I fall and hit my head. (9 sec.) | Looking at my reflection in the car makes me talk! (20 sec.) | I'm just going to clean this entire drawer out. (21 sec.) | I can stick out my tongue! (20 sec.)

So now we have a toddler on our hands...it's great!  Now go visit Alex's site if you haven't already;  it just got updated!

(7/7.04) I'm so happy I can walk! (Watch me walk to Mama!)

June 13, 2004:
Unlike Alex's first year, Charlie Mac hasn't gotten quite the same level of attention for her Web site -- as we've mentioned a few times, updating both sites can be daunting at times.  But this week, Charlie deserved her own update:  she took some huge leaps and bounds forward, all in the last few days.

Up until this week, she could stand on her own for a few seconds at a time, generally without much stability.  She was just starting to use her walker.  As discussed, she wasn't a huge laugher or talker.  But all of a sudden, she can stand by herself for long stretches of time, she zips around the house with her walker (she's figured out -- very quickly -- how to move it around so she doesn't just have to go in a straight line), she's talking a lot (most of it is just gibberish, but now she does a VERY clear "MaMaMaMa", and her "BaBa" for Daddy isn't too bad either), and it's very easy to get her to laugh now.  Her awareness of the world has shot up dramatically, and she's very cuddly and loving.

And not to rub it in on Alex, but Daddy is thrilled to get a similar amount of loving as Mommy does -- it's actually OK for Daddy to hold Charlie when Mommy is in the room.  Charlie does the same cute "holding onto your shirt collar" for both parents.

Charlie is very inquisitive, and not afraid of anything.  She loves to be tossed into the air (lots of laughing), she explores the whole house (we just had to babyproof the cabinets today), she adores this toy wooden hammer, she eats pretty well (lots of noise when she's getting fed, but the food finds its way into her tummy), and she cries for about 3 minutes before going to sleep.

We don't have too many pictures this week:  just a few of Charlie going on her first bike ride, playing on the carpet, and walking around with her walker.  But we got a bunch of videos (making up for last edition!), and there are some great ones (8, to be exact):

Daddy took me on a bike ride! (10 sec.) | I went for a walk with my walker outside. (12 sec.) | Then Alex helped me walk (and patted me on the head)! (10 sec.) | This is a long movie of me walking around the house. (25 sec.) | Here's a fun one, walking on the carpet... (10 sec.) |
And now I'm walking AND talking! (33 sec.) | Still some more talking/screaming... (11 sec.) |
And finally, watch me walk, talk, and change directions! (40 sec.)

What a fun week!  If we have this much improvement every week for the next few months, Charlie will be heading off to college by the end of the year. :-)  When you're done here, be sure to look at Alex's site if you missed the update from last week.

(6.13.04) Look, ma -- I'm standing! (Watch Alex help me walk!)

June 6, 2004:
Lots of fun stuff for Charlie this month:

  • She's standing!  Just after the 10-month mark, she's now standing on her own.  Not perfectly yet, but she can stand for about 15 seconds at times before plopping down.

  • Her vocabulary is coming along:  we get very clear "Mmmm"s for Mommy and some "Ba Ba" or "Ya ya" for Daddy.

  • Her hair is turning, well, blonde.  It just keeps getting lighter!  (Just look at the picture on the right!  But her eyes are definitely brown.)

  • She's eating very well, although Daddy needs to do most of the feeding (she gets distracted when Mommy does it).  Still just two teeth...and none, seemingly, on the way!

  • She's very social -- she loves to smile at strangers.

  • Her clapping is coming along, too -- she does it whenever she's happy!

While there aren't nearly as many pictures this edition for Charlie as there are for Alex, we still have some good ones: with her sister, posing for some auction items, at her sister's haircut, at the beach, with cousin Orion, at Disneyland, and getting fed by Papa.  No videos this month! (Sorry!  We'll have some standing/talking ones next time.)

Charlie is reaching that fun age!  Next month, we'll have some good updates...be sure to come back then!  In the meantime, go look at Alex's site, which just got its monthly update.

(6.6.04) Happy at Disneyland!

May 9, 2004:
We'll keep saying it month after month, but there can't be too many babies that are easier to deal with than Miss Charlie Mac.  She's got such a great demeanor, and she's so easy-going.  And it's only getting better as she gets older.

Now that she's over 9 months, her awareness of the world is pretty high.  She absolutely loves to be outdoors, and she loves being in the swing (it must run in the family).  She waves at the dog, and she's getting good at taking pictures and interacting with others (adults and children alike).

We've got lots of updates this month, in bullet-point format:

  • She's got two teeth (finally)!  They just broke through this week, and they're both on the bottom.

  • She's extremely mobile, and she's always pulling herself up to standing.  She can even stand by herself for about 3 seconds before she realizes what she's doing, but walking is going to happen well before a year:  she already uses the "lawnmower" pretty well.

  • She sleeps through the night, and then gives her parents a break in the morning by playing by herself for another hour.

  • Words are on the way:  "mmmm" for Mama, and "ba ba" for Daddy!

  • Swimming has come naturally to her:  she doesn't mind when her face gets wet, and she's fine going underwater.

  • She's eating great -- she enjoys both liquid and solid foods (Daddy has better luck than Mommy, since there's no milk distraction)...but she can power through yams or potatoes or broccoli or oatmeal.

  • Even though Daddy can feed her well, she likes to feed herself:  chicken, bread, etc....anything she can hold and gnaw on.

  • She still wants to be with Mommy whenever possible (but when Mommy's not around, Daddy's a fine substitute).

We've got some good pictures this edition:  in the flowers, at Sea World, wearing a firehat, playing in the pool, eating, reading with her sister, and celebrating Mother's Day.  And there are 4 videos:

Charlie crawls around at Sea World. (17 sec.) | Daddy feeds both girls. (18 sec.) | Charlie stands up on her exersaucer. (16 sec.) | Short, cute, standing and sideways. (5 sec.)

That's a wrap for this edition...will we be reporting on some walking next time?  You'll have to wait and see...but in the meantime, check out Alex's site, also just updated!

(5.9.04) Sometimes I like hats! (Watch me crawl around at Sea World!)

April 11, 2004:
It's here, the update is finally here!  While it's marginally acceptable for Alex's site to go a month between updates, Charlie just has too many milestones to cover them adequately once a month.  But that's the task we're faced with, so let's do our best:

Charlie has gotten the whole crawling thing down pat now, and she's moved on to standing -- she'll pull herself up at every opportunity (including in her crib, if she doesn't want to take a nap).  She still doesn't have any teeth (her sister had them at 4 months), and she's not eating too great as a result.  But she likes to gnaw on bread or other things, and sometimes she likes to eat pureed potatoes or yams or oatmeal (she tries every day, and she keeps getting better at it).

Her sleeping habits are great again -- 12 hours straight! (6pm to 6am)  When she wakes up (6am is sometimes a little early for Mommy and Daddy), she's able to stand in her exersaucer for 45 minutes to an hour, allowing some crucial extra parent sleep time!  When she watches "Your Baby Can Read", she's fascinated by the kids...but when the adult comes on and talks, the crying begins!

Interestingly enough, as independent as she can be in the morning, the afternoon is often a different story:  someone has to be around most of the time (and if you're holding her, it's even better).

And finally, her modeling career seems to be taking off:  she went to LA for a possible "Parents" magazine cover shoot last week, and now Nordstrom's wants her for some things.  Keep getting that college fund going, kiddo!

There are a ton of pictures this month:  both her 7 month and 8 month shots are here, plus some photos on a Merry-go-round, standing near the house, at a playground, after a swim, on a trolley, in Indiana (and on a plane), with my new cousin Cadence, and at Easter.  And look at all the videos:

I'm kind of clapping here. (12 sec.) | Here's a quick Merry-Go-Round movie. (2 sec.) | I'm doing some great standing...until I plop down. (11 sec.) | Here's a fantastic standing movie by the flowerpot. (14 sec.) | Oh, is that you Mommy?  I'm comin' to get you! (23 sec.) | Now I'm standing at Chuck E. Cheese! (17 sec.) | How about a little post-swim chew? (17 sec.) | Look at me at the farm in Indiana! (11 sec.) | I also did some swinging with my sister out there. (7 sec.) | And now we're on the way home, in the airport! (10 sec.) | Daddy took me down the slide at Easter! (7 sec.)

Whew!  That does it for this edition:  Daddy promises to update the site again by the end of April.  If you haven't already, go look at Alex's site, which also just got its own long-overdue update.

(4.11.04) I can stand by myself! (Watch me stand by this flowerpot!)

March 7, 2004:
Yes, it's been a month since the last update...Charlie (and Charlie Mac fans), Daddy's very sorry.  But enough with that...on to the big news!

Charlie is CRAWLING!  Indeed, it's time to baby-proof the house.  She finally got the hang of it right around the end of February, and she's been picking up steam ever since.  Very exciting news for Charlie, who can soon start to escape the over-affection of her sister!

She's also starting to make some word-type sounds:  bla bla bla, tha tha tha, da da da.  It's nice to think that she might be saying "da da"...but not yet.  But she still has no teeth!  Her sister had them by four months...Charlie is 7 1/2, and nothing -- not even a little something on the way.

This baby continues to be an absolute angel -- even if she's not sleeping through the night too well these days.  When she finally gets up for good at 6:45am, she's fine if you put her in the exersaucer for another 45 minutes or so...it's amazing how tolerant she is.  She can also sit by herself for long periods of time, playing with her toys.

Her overall "paying attention to the world" ability is growing day-by-day -- she's fascinated by the world around her...particularly the outside, where she almost never cries.  She's eating better (crackers, pretzels, oatmeal, applesauce)...but without teeth, she hasn't really caught on yet.

And the final big update:  she's left-handed!  She sucks her left thumb, and she nearly always grabs for toys with her left hand first. (Mommy's not totally convinced yet, though.)

Lots of pictures this month of Charlie playing in the backyard, getting baths in the sink, playing with her sister, going down a slide, and of course:  crawling!  There are also 12 movies this week:

Here's a movie of me when I was 6 months old! (25 sec.) | Sometimes I like to eat duck in the bath. (12 sec.) | After the bath, I'm usually very calm. (6 sec.) | I got to play in my room with my sister! (17 sec.) | A dog?  Oooh, that looks like fun! (6 sec.) | That moose is so funny, he always makes me laugh! (17 sec.) | Here's a movie from when I was almost crawling! (29 sec.) | My sister took me on the slide at the playground. (11 sec.) | This is what I look like in a swing. (5 sec.) | And finally, a crawling movie! (33 sec.) | Here's an even better one...I got the toy! (17 sec.) | And one more to finish it off..."yay", she says! (9 sec.)

Once again, our apologies for the long gap between updates...now go check out Alex's site -- it finally just got updated too!

(3.7.04) I'm crawling! (Watch me crawl!)

February 8, 2004:
In the past, we used to update Alex's site every week starting at around 5 months, since the milestones at that age start to come fast and furious...so we apologize to Charlie in advance for the fact that the site is only getting updated every three weeks or so these days...note to Charlie in 5 years:  it's tough to do two kids at once!  It doesn't mean we love you any less. :-)

On to the update:  Charlie is about a week away from crawling.  She can now get herself into the crawl position, and she's just figuring out how to move one arm at a time (instead of both at once, usually resulting in a face plant).  There's a large likelihood that the next update will begin with "Charlie's crawling!".

Her sitting skills are very solid, and she's even standing in her crib a bit now (with some help getting to the position).  She's still not laughing too much, and she's in no rush to eat solid foods (but eats them well when we give them to her).

Again, no offense to Alex...but Charlie has to be one of the easiest babies.  She's nearly always happy, she goes to sleep when she's supposed to, and she always just goes along with the flow.  She'll even sit for 30-45 minutes, at times, just content to play with her toys on the carpet.  (We don't miss, AT ALL, driving around for 45 minutes at 3am trying to get the baby back to sleep.  Thanks, Charlie!)

And it's nice to see the revenue she's producing as well:  you can see Charlie's "headshot" photos here, and the Infantino company keeps calling her back for more (she's on their Web site here, among other places).  She's already gotten 6 shoots!  We'll see where this heads, but it's always good when your child can start their own college fund.

This week's pictures include lots of shots with Mommy and Daddy in the backyard, some good smiley ones, a picture of me standing in my crib, a few from the doctor's (got my shots!), and a ton from a visit to the playground with the family.  There are four movies from this week as well:

Charlie sings like a bird in the backyard! (11 sec.) | And now she stands up in her crib. (18 sec.) | She loves to go on the swing with her sister... (6 sec.) | ...or slide down the slide with Alex and Mommy! (5 sec.)

That's a wrap, folks!  Go check out Alex's site as well!

(2.8.04) I'm always happy outside! (Watch me sing like a bird!)

January 18, 2004:
Our little baby is growing up!  In addition to being able to sit by herself for long periods of time now, she has shown an extreme interest of toys.  Put one in front of her, and she'll grab it and play with it (often gnawing on it) for quite awhile...until she wants a different one.

She's also starting to eat solid food (oatmeal and pureed broccoli so far), and seems to like it a lot.  She's had a cold for about two weeks now, so that nose has been running pretty good, but she's still been her normal self:  usually cheerful, only needing attention when she's tired or hungry.

She sleeps extremely well (nearly always on her tummy, unlike her sister), and she's on some good sleep patterns -- this time around, Daddy doesn't have to drive the baby all over town to get her to sleep.  A few quick cries, and she's out!

While she still doesn't laugh as much as we'd like her to, she's starting to come around:  some well-placed tickles can usually get the job done.

Be sure to look at this edition's pictures for some good shots of Charlie playing with toys, painting with her sister, at the zoo, eating, playing with her friends, and more!  And you can watch the one new movie:  Watch me eat some oatmeal! (11 sec.)

That'll do it for this edition;  thanks for stopping by.  Now be sure to go look at the site for Charlie's sister Alex (it just got updated too)!

(1.18.04) I'm starting to eat real food! (Watch me eat some oatmeal!)

December 28, 2003:
Well, it's been four weeks since the last update -- Charlie is now over 5 months old!  We need to make sure we post updates more often, as the milestones are rolling in.

For starters, she's sitting up now!  Not perfect by any stretch, but getting better every day.  And if you leave her sitting up on the carpet, there's a good chance she'll still be sitting a few minutes later (or on her belly, doing push-ups).

She's also sucking her thumb (something her sister never did) -- it's a great pacifier for her (and she doesn't use pacifiers).  Generally, she's using her fingers better:  she can also grab things now and bring them to her mouth.  (And she's now interested in toys as well.)

Of course, she's rolling over in both directions -- the days in which you could leave her in one place and expect her to still be there when you return are over.

She's still a very happy and agreeable baby -- cries only come when she's tired or hungry, and she's easily pacified.  She loves to be talked to -- when you say "Dada" or "Mama" or "Alex", she goes into a full body smile!

And she's still not laughing regularly -- close, but it's tough to do any one thing that will make her laugh every time.  She's starting to respond to tickles under the arm, though!

Check out this month's pictures for a ton of shots of Charlie at Christmas, on a blanket, in a swing, in the bouncy seat, in the bath, with her sister, at Grandma and Grandpa's, and much more.

We've also got some movies Watch me sit up! (11 sec.) | More sitting! (20 sec.) | Watch Alex give me a kiss. (11 sec.) | I'm playing with a baby I got for Xmas! (5 sec.)

That's it for the week!  Now go check out Alex's site, which just got updated as well.

(12.28.03) It's my first Christmas! (Watch me sit up!)

December 1, 2003:
OK -- we owe it to Charlotte to give her credit where it's due (and don't take this as a knock on Alex, it's just the way it is):  Charlie is an incredible baby -- by FAR the easiest we've had so far.  Now, some might say that you forge relationships through trying times...and if that's so, then our relationship with Alex is as strong as it can get.  With Charlie, there's no 2am car rides to get her to sleep, no inconsolable crying, no new-cold-every-week...she's just a great baby.  She'll sit on your lap for hours, contentedly...or if you need to put her down, she might not be thrilled about it, but she'll understand.

She's good in the car, she goes to bed nicely, she smiles at every face she sees, she'll let anyone hold her...all great things.  Well done, child number two!

Fortunately, those traits also make her a very good photo-shoot baby:  so far, she's gotten every job she's tried out for (a smile and no fussing go a long way).

She's doing great at tummy time, she's reaching out and grabbing things, and we're less than two months away from sitting up.  Don't leave her on a counter -- she'll roll over pretty quickly.

This week, we have some fantastic pictures (this was the hardest week yet to pick out a featured shot).  Check them out to see Charlie's posed pictures (they're great), at the playground with Alex, at another photo shoot, at a parade, in Sonoma for Thanksgiving with cousin Orion, at an amusement park, sick with Alex, at GG's apartment, getting "dressed" by Daddy and Grandpa, and finally, at Aunt Kathy's new house.

With all the pictures, there's just one video this week:  I can go on a baby swing now! (6 sec.)

Whew!  That's it.  Now go look at her sister Alex's site -- it just got updated too!

(12.1.03) I posed for pictures this week! (Watch me in the baby swing!)

November 10, 2003:
Charlotte is definitely now a "baby", and not an infant.  She recognizes people (specifically Mommy, but also Daddy and Alex), she reaches for things, she can hold her head up to look around, she's got her preferences (milk, being held, warmth, baths, music, her crib mobile, swings) and dislikes (bright lights, when the microwave door closes...actually, she's so easy-going, there's not much on the dislike list).

She can roll-over pretty well (you have to watch when you lay her down on the couch), and she's very independent -- she's fine if you let her sit by herself for stretches of time.  She's sleeping very well, only waking up once during the night, and she's on a pretty good schedule.

If you look at this edition's pictures, you'll see Charlie dressed in her Halloween costume, sitting in her bouncy chair and car seat, lying naked on a white towel, posing for her 3 month pictures, and more!  There are also 3 fun videos this week:

I'm getting pretty good at rolling over! (9 sec.) | I actually like tummy time (unlike my sister did). (12 sec.) | More tummy time! (13 sec.)

That's it!  Take a look at her sister Alex's site -- it just got updated!

(11.10.03) It got cold this week! (Watch me roll over!)

October 28, 2003:
Well, Charlie laughed for the first time last week...and we caught in a movie!  Although she hasn't done it since, we have proof!

Her head-holding is getting very good, and she continues to gain weight. She's sleeping great (sometimes she can go through the whole night), and she eats well (and she never gets sick).  Really, Charlie has to be one of the easier babies -- she's not too hard to pacify, and all she really wants is a little lovin'!  Her vocal abilities are getting good, too -- she's starting to "talk" when she wants something (food, a new diaper) instead of crying.

Check out this week's pictures for shots of Charlotte in a bandana and overalls, in the bath with her sister, playing with Mommy on the beanbag, crying with Daddy, and sitting on a white towel.  We even have 5 videos this week:

Watch me lay on the couch on my tummy! (15 sec.) | And then Alex comes and talks to me. (28 sec.) | This is me being a happy baby... (11 sec.) | And now I'm so happy:  it's my first laugh! (12 sec.) | Finally, a little baby talk. (12 sec.)

That'll cover this edition.  Go see Alex's site -- it just got updated too!

(10.28.03) Mommy put me in a bandana! (Watch me laugh for the first time!)

October 12, 2003:
She's getting big!  Charlie weighs in at over 12 pounds these days -- more than 50% growth in 75 days.  You can see it in her chin, arms and legs...the girl's gaining weight (and that's a good thing, of course).

Her movements are getting a little less jerky, and she's got much better routines.  Now that Mommy has moved her into the crib (in her own room) at night, she can sleep up to seven straight hours.

But the big news:  Charlie went on her first photo shoot!  Yes, after getting selected at the interview, she went on a shoot -- it's about time she started pulling her own weight around here.  (Could there be more to come?  Hey, if it pays the bills...)

Check out this week's pictures for shots from the photo shoot, plus some of her on the bed and in her bouncy chair.  You can also see a few movies:

Photo Shoot:  First, I faced the lady... (11 sec.) | Photo Shoot:  Then I got bounced a little bit. (6 sec.) | Photo Shoot:  See how relaxed I was!  (16 sec.)

That's it -- Alex's site just got updated, so go look there!

(10.12.03) I like tummy-time! (Watch me at my first photo shoot!)

September 28, 2003:
Charlie is definitely exhibiting distinct personality traits these days -- while she certainly sleeps better than her sister did at this age, she's got her own way of doing things.  She coos differently than Alex did, and she is a much better eater.  But some things never change -- get Charlie in a moving car, and she's happy.  (But don't stop the car!)

She's starting to "coo" now, she loves taking baths (they always calm her), she enjoys being walked around in the sling (puts her right out), she's got very good head control, she likes to watch the skylight in the living room, and she doesn't mind tummy time (again, unlike her sister).

There are a lot of pictures of Charlie in this update:  in her bouncy chair, lying down in her gym, on a train at the zoo, at her first baseball game, and the all-important "two-month" pictures (see below for some comparison shots!).

And here are the movies for the week:  Charlie's on the changing table. (9 sec.) | Charlie's at a festival, listening to music. (11 sec.) | This is what Charlie sounds like! (19 sec.) | Sometimes she likes to hang out in her gym. (32 sec.) | Look, she's lifting her head! (19 sec.)

Check these comparisons of Alex and Charlie at two months:

Now go look at Alex's site for more movies and pictures!

(9.28.03) I can lift my head! (Watch me speak, kind of!)

September 15, 2003:
Lots of pictures this week -- a bunch of Charlie making faces, on a boat, and at the doctor's office (getting her shots).  And there are some good movies:

Just hanging out, awake! (11 sec.) | Now I'm at the doctor's, getting weighed. (14 sec.) | And now the long one:  getting my shots! (OUCH!) (36 sec.)

She's definitely getting better head control, and her personality is starting to show through.  The biggest cries we get are when she's over-tired;  she's just learning to fall asleep on her own now (and she's getting the hang of it pretty quickly).  It's getting easier to elicit smiles out of Charlie these days as well -- when she fixes onto your eyebrows or mouth, any movement will get at least a half-smile (and the whole thing, if you're lucky!).

She likes to lie down on her exercise mat (and look at the things hanging above her), and the automatic swing and vibrating bouncy chair are both absolutely essential pieces of Charlotte-raising equipment.

That about covers it;  go check out Alex's site for a ridiculous amount of pictures and movies!

(9.15.03) I smile a lot now! (Watch me get weighed!)

September 8, 2003:
For those of you who tuned in last week to see a whopping two pictures, we've tried to make up for it in this edition.  Check out the latest pictures to see a whole bunch of close-ups and action shots (kind of) of Charlotte at the track, getting kissed by her sister, and getting held by Mommy.

Most of the pictures are of little Charlie at her times of calmness;  unfortunately, she's having trouble sleeping during the day, which can often lead to crying.  Sometimes, incessant crying.  The kind that goes on and on and on, over and over, repetitively.  (Fellow parents know what I mean.)  She sleeps pretty well at night (thankfully), but she'll stay awake for the entire daylight hours sometimes.  Mommy's handling it quite well, surprisingly.

But she's definitely lost the "newborn" look and has moved into the "infant" phase -- her head control is pretty good, but she's still got to work on her standing skills.  She's starting to coo back and forth in conversation, and she'll smile in response to something she sees (Alex's face, Daddy's eyebrows, Mommy's mouth) every once in awhile.

You can see her in action in these movies I'm crying because I'm tired. (11 sec.) | Watch my sister give me some love! (18 sec.) | Whoops, not done yet...more love! (11 sec.) | A little resting on the bed...until Alex arrives! (28 sec.)

That'll do it for this week.  Come back next week when Alex's site will get updated as well!  Thanks for stopping by.

(9.8.03) My best close-up yet! (Watch me get some love from my sister!)

September 1, 2003:
If you're here this week for pictures and movies...well, we're sorry to disappoint you:  There are no movies this week, and only two pictures (both of Charlie holding a giraffe).  Our apologies for the lack of pics this week;  as regular followers of the AlexWillow.com/FisherKids.com sites know, we'll make up for it soon enough.

But Charlie is certainly making progress;  her head-holding is getting very good, and she's getting on a pretty regular eat-sleep-wake schedule.

And while she definitely cries less than her sister did at this age (she doesn't have colic), she sometimes has trouble falling asleep -- that's when the cries come.

But if it's not a boob in the mouth, she can often be pacified by the bouncy chair or the swing, or being walked around in the sling.  She also loves the car (just like her sister), but only if it's moving.  (Red lights can be tough until she calms down.)

So that's it. Alex's site just got updated this week, and there are a few more pictures over there...go check them out!

(9.1.03) Now I can hold a giraffe!

August 24, 2003:
Charlie Mac turned one month old today! (Hence the day-late update, so we could get the official one-month-old photo shoot in.)

She's still an infant, certainly -- but no longer a newborn.  She can move her head from side-to-side, and follow daddy with her head as he walks back and forth in front of her.

But her life is still all about eat, sleep, poop, repeat.  Alex is still very supportive, and just loves to hold her (and sing to her when she's crying).

Charlie is pretty good in the car, as long as it's moving, and she'll get bored easily -- she likes to have things happening when she's awake (as opposed to just sitting there).  She's definitely a sucker (boobs, fingers, her own hand, whatever), and she loves taking baths (it always calms her down).

The pictures this week are mainly of Charlie sitting with a "1 Month" sign over her head, but we snuck some in there of Alex holding her.

There are two quick movies this week:  Watch me cry as I took this picture! (17 sec.) | Now I'm still crying, but at least I'm lying down! (19 sec.)

That'll cover it! Alex's site won't be updated until next week, but if you missed it, go see it now!

Here's the comparison picture of the week:

Charlie:  1 month                 Alex:  1 month

(8.25.03) I'm one month old today! (Watch me cry as I took this picture!)

August 17, 2003:
Not much to report this week:  Charlie is starting to gain weight again, and she's definitely checking things out more often -- when Daddy walks by her while she's sitting in her chair, she'll move her head to follow him.

Her habits are pretty predictable:  eat, sleep, wake up and look around, repeat.  There's absolutely nothing that's wrong with the world that can't be solved by a boob in the mouth (really, she's pretty easy to pacify if you're willing to nurse her).

Check out the pictures this week:  some cute ones of Charlie in her overalls, Charlie lying around, and Charlie being held by her big sister (which happens quite often).

Just one movie this week:  Watch me sit and look around! (21 sec.)

And we've just introduced the Updates Page, which chronicles all of these updates from week-to-week.

That's it for this week! Go check out Alex's site as long as you're here!

Oh, and look at this:

Charlie:  3 weeks                 Alex:  4 weeks

(8.17.03) Check me out in my overalls! (Watch me sit and look around!)

August 10, 2003:
It's a short update this week, folks -- to be perfectly honest, not much happens in those first few weeks of life...Charlie is still figuring out how the whole world works.

But she's doing well -- although even with a pretty good and consistent nursing schedule, she's still losing a little weight (down to 7 pounds, 12 ounces), so the doctors are keeping an eye on that.

While her sleeping patterns aren't as deep as they were at the beginning, she's still pretty consistent:  two hours at a time, with a nice 5-6 hour chunk at night (so Mommy can get some well-deserved sleep!).

She keeps her eyes open more often, and she's still relatively easy to pacify with a finger in the mouth (or, of course, some milk from Mommy).

Not too many pictures this week:  just some of Alex and Charlie on the couch, some close-ups, and a few from tonight's bath.  And there's just one video:  Watch my big sister take care of me! (37 sec.)

That'll do it -- next week, we'll update both Charlie's and Alex's site!  See you then!

(8.10.03) Alex and I took a bath! (Watch my big sister take care of me!)

(8.03.03) One of my first smiles! (Watch me take my first real bath!)

(7.26.03) I'm here, I'm here! (Watch me getting cleaned up!)
